NASH consultant and big carp ace Jordan Dicks has been continuing his run of success on Churn Pool in the Cotswold Water Park, bagging six carp from eight takes in his last two winter trips including the mirror Paw Print at 31 lb 10 oz – and making front cover of Carp Talk into the bargain.
Tackling the tricky 4.5 acre pool Jordan who runs Bristol Angling Centre has been finding success with The Key®, and once again the new Nashbait formula has served up some of the more elusive carp from the 90 strong stock.
Careful observation and a change of areas brought an end to a run of blanks almost instantly: ‘I’d not caught in four trips through January despite doing my best to track down where they were then at the end of the month the stream over the back flooded some water into the lake,’ Jordan revealed. ‘I arrived early afternoon and put one rod down in that corner and within half an hour it was away with a scraper 20 mirror.’
Jordan had been feeding small amounts of The Key® when leaving the venue after previous sessions, the successful formula this time a Key® Airball on a stiff hinged rig behind a Cling-On leader. Walking down the bank and scattering 40 baits widely, all three rods were spread in the area, and within two hours all three rods had produced a carp, Jordan following up with Paw Print at 31 lb 10 oz and then one of his target fish a perfect zip linear at 25 lb 6 oz – normally only a once or twice per year bankside visitor.
‘The stiff hinge is my standard rig for the Water Park with a lead clip,’ he explained. ‘I tend to do better with it when the hookbaits are very slow sinking, and use big hooks, the size 5 Chod Twisters with 15mm pop-ups.
‘Churn Pool is lovely, really quiet and with some nice facilities like a luxury lodge and even a kitchen but it’s the fish that are the appeal to me, real classic scaley Cotswolds carp. I was really pleased to get the linear because it doesn’t come out much, and when I was using The Key® on Farriers it produced a couple of the elusive mirrors. It’s been doing really well for me,’ concluded Jordan.
Despite sadly losing two more carp on a gravel bar the final morning of his 24 hour trip, Jordan has since been back and added another three more Churn Pool carp to his recent tally on The Key®. Great stuff Jordan!
