MAN of the moment Simon Crow continues to lead by example with the blockbuster Nashbait launch The Key®, adding another Yorkshire lump to his season’s tally.
Carp Talk editor Simon, 44, has quickly bagged the biggest mirror in his latest target lake, again showing the selective nature of The Key® for hard fished big carp. It follows two 80 lb commons, a UK mid 50 and a personal best UK winter common all on the deadly new Nashbait formulation.
“Earlier this year I joined a lovely old lake near to York which has lots of carp fishing history dating back to the 1970s. It doesn’t contain any whackers, but there’s some cracking fish in there to low-30s. In particular I wanted a fish called Hoover which is around the 32-33lb mark,’ said Simon from Brough, East Yorkshire. “I started fishing there in early spring, fishing a couple of overnighters for a couple of small fish but couldn’t get down again until the end of May due to other commitments.”
A couple of short evening trips produced fish to low 20s, followed by one of the A Team members The Red Fish at 27 lb, all falling for 20mm The Key® bottom baits.
“I had the chance to watch the reaction of the fish to The Key® at close quarters and they were on it quickly in the spots I was feeding it. After having three fish in a night and one loss on the Monday I was shattered when I left work on the Tuesday and was wondering whether or not to go fishing again for the night. The conditions were prime so I pushed myself on to go.”
Despite not being able to get back into the productive swim from the previous night Simon dropped in the nearest area where he’d seen The Hoover on several occasions, woken at first light by a fast take which saw that very same carp in his net, and weighing 33 lb 10 oz.
“I feel really lucky to have caught it as it was only my sixth night on the lake, but at the moment nothing surprises me with The Key!” laughed Simon. “It is proving to be an exceptional bait and one I am full of confidence using.”
